Classical music in a dream setting: the Deià International Music Festival

The Deià International Music Festival, dedicated to chamber music, has been held on the island of Mallorca since 1978. The programme of this prestigious event includes national and international performers, groups and composers. One of the main attractions of the Festival is its bucolic setting. Prepare to fall in love.

Founded in 1978 by Patrick Meadows, the Deià International Music Festival ranks amongst the most important classical music festivals of Europe, a fact that contributes to the town of Deià and the island of Mallorca being known all over the world. Since its very first edition, the collaboration of international artists and the undeniable quality of its music programmes, combining tradition with the most up-to-date, modern trends have been the hallmark of the Festival.

The Deià International Music Festival is held between May and September and boasts a comprehensive programme. You absolutely should not miss out on this unique opportunity to soak up some quality live music. Most of the concerts play chamber music but other genres, such as jazz, flamenco or world music, are also scheduled, but always from the perspective of classical music. The repertoire ranges from the Middle Ages to much more contemporary works. Twelve centuries of music, made accessible to any music lover.

The shows alternate between three different venues: the church of Deià, the Son Marroig estate and the Monestir de Miramar. These last two, both listed as Spanish Assets of Cultural Interest, are properties steeped in history that Archduke Ludwig Salvator of Austria bought after falling for the charm and beauty of the landscapes of the northern coast of Mallorca. The Deià International Music Festival offers you the chance to relive this story of deep attachment while you gaze at one of the most beautiful sunsets on the island as you listen to the most exquisite chamber music.
