The monumental villa of Raixa, along with its magnificent gardens, is the result of the neoclassical refurbishing done at the turn of the 18th century by Cardinal Despuig, one of the key figures in the Majorcan Enlightenment.

This old Moorish farmhouse conserves some 16th century elements such as the vaulted ceiling in the chapel and the portico of the "clastra" or courtyard. 

The first Count of Montenegro bought the estate in 1660, and at the end of the 18th century Cardinal Despuig, Antonio Despuig i Dameto (Palma 1745 - Lucca 1813) transformed it into a monumental neoclassical villa, and installed a museum of classical sculpture that is now displayed in Bellver Castle in Palma. Noteworthy of the current house is the loggia on the southern façade, built in 1808, and the central courtyard leading to the traditional rooms of a country manor or "possessió".

The building is surrounded by gardens accessed through a grand terrace with a crenelated tower from 1898. The lower gardens run along the façade of the loggia, with a central water fountain and the orange garden off it. 

The ones on higher ground are terraced around a monumental neoclassical staircase. Other points of interest are a large reflecting pond, a small hermitage, a bandstand, a historical pavilion and other elements integrated into the landscape. Raixa has appeared in films such as Evil under the Sun (Guy Hamilton, 1982) and Bearn (Jaime Chavarri, 1983). It is currently the home of the Raixa-Serra de Tramuntana Visitor's Centre.
