Festivities and traditions in Mallorca

In Mallorca, the calendar is packed with traditions and popular festivals that are celebrated throughout the year. From the famous fiestas of Sant Sebastià and Sant Antoni in January, when bonfires light up the village skies and in all the villages with people dressed up as devils (demoni), to the Easter processions. The dance of the cossiers is popular in villages like Alaró or Montuïri, the exclusive Ball de ses Àguiles in Pollença, the Festa de l'Estandart in Palma, the procession of Ses Crestetes and the Beata in Valldemossa, are also unique events on the traditional Mallorcan festive calendar. In summertime, the island is busy with festivities, such as the Nit de Sant Joan (Saint John's Night), when open-air dances are held all over the island, as well as re-enactments of Moorish-Christian battles in Calvià, Sóller, Valldemossa, Pollença and Sant Elm.
