Alaró (Mallorca)

Alaró is a charming little Mallorcan village situated at the foot of the Serra de Tramuntana mountain range. Its population of about 6,000 inhabitants is multicultural, but it has retained its unique and traditional charm, with narrow cobbled streets and stone buildings. A relaxing stroll through the historic centre and a drink in the open air in the central square, the Plaça de la Vila, are one of the pleasures of visiting Alaró. On Saturday mornings there is a market where you can buy local products, wine and handicrafts.

One of the most interesting visits is to the Castell d'Alaró. It is a roquer castle, a type of fortress built in a high, rugged, strategic area, from where a large part of the area and the sea could be seen. It is worthwhile to enter its walls and admire the breathtaking natural beauty surrounding Alaró, which attracts cyclists and hikers because of its easy access to the Serra de Tramuntana mountains.

Alaró was also the first municipality in Mallorca to be supplied with electricity. For this reason, it is worth visiting the tower of the old electricity factory, which has been declared an Asset of Cultural Interest.
