Escorca (Mallorca)

Escorca is a mountain village in the heart of the Serra de Tramuntana range that has been a World Heritage Site since 2011. It is located among the highest mountains on the island, of which the highest peak is Puig Major, with an altitude of 1,445 metres. Due to its extreme climate, the population is less than 300 inhabitants and is scattered around, close to the monastery of Lluc, one of the main attractions of the area.

The Monastery of Lluc was, in the past, a humble sanctuary in the mountains. Built in the 13th century, today it has become an imposing Renaissance-style building and the most important monument in the area, attracting thousands of visitors each year. Inside is La Moreneta, the Virgin of Lluc, the patron saint of Mallorca. The place is now adapted for visitors and has a guest house, restaurants and even a botanical garden.

Due to its privileged location, Escorca has several natural monuments that attract nature lovers. Starting with the Sa Calobra road, a winding road designed in 1932 with a 270º curve known as the tie knot, a real attraction for cyclists and motorcyclists. This road also leads to one of Mallorca's unique natural spectacles, the Torrent de Pareis canyon.
