Municipality of Mallorca
Porreres is a magnificent example of the most authentic, rural Mallorca. There are up to 36 windmills in the vicinity of the town, which bear witness to its agricultural character. Its historic centre is pedestrianised, allowing you to stroll along its streets and admire its rustic charm, have a snack in one of its charming cafés and admire the beauty of the Gothic church of Nostra Senyora de la Consolació.
It is also a good option for hiking and cycling enthusiasts, as it has easy, rustic routes through its vineyards. Many of them are open to the public and offer tours.
However, Porreres is not just a rural village with the charm of traditional Mallorca. It has some surprising aces up its sleeve. One is the open, friendly nature of its inhabitants. Another is the exhibition of modern art at the town hall, including works by Salvador Dalí. Porreres is also home to the sanctuary of Monti-Sion, a 14th century Marian church that houses an old grammar school and has a beautiful pentagonal cloister. It is on top of a hill, which offers spectacular views of the surrounding countryside. On clear days, you can even see the Cabrera archipelago.
