Municipality of Mallorca
Sóller is one of the most beautiful villages in Mallorca. It is located in the so-called golden valley, in one of the most beautiful and lushest areas of the Serra de Tramuntana, in the north-west of the island. Since ancient times, this beautiful village in the Serra de Tramuntana has prospered thanks to the cultivation of oranges and lemons, owing to the microclimate enjoyed by this part of the mountain range. That is why walking through the orange groves in spring is a spectacle for all five senses.
The most authentic (and romantic) way to reach Sóller is on the old wooden train that leaves Palma and crosses the mountains. Once you are there, strolling around its streets it is easy to see the town’s prosperous past: typical Mallorcan houses intermingle with French-influenced manor houses and modernist buildings. This is because, despite its difficult terrain, the city prospered by exporting citrus fruits and wine to France through its port.
In fact, Port de Sóller is another recommended visit. It is quite an experience to take the tram that crosses l'Horta amidst orange, lemon and palm trees to the port and the only beach, which is next to the port. This place is ideal for sailing or for walking along the coast and ending the day at the Cap Gros lighthouse.
