Son Servera (Mallorca)

Son Servera is the main town of the municipality of the same name, which is located in the north-east of Mallorca and includes coastal towns like Cala Bona, Port Verd, Port Nou, Port Vell, Costa de los Pinos and the well-known tourist centre of Cala Millor. However, Son Servera's past was closely linked with agriculture, livestock farming and fishing.

The architecture of Son Servera is in a Mediterranean style with some examples of modernism, such as the Església Nova, an unfinished place of worship with no roof, open to the sky, where religious and cultural events are held. This building was designed by Joan Rubió, a disciple of Gaudí.

The weekly local produce market is on Fridays and the Plaça de Sant Joan fills with locals and visitors. An interesting event is the Firó de la Flor d'Ametller, a traditional fair held in February where original almond-based products can be found, such as flower crafts, perfumes, soaps, cosmetics and candles.

In Son Servera there is also a Green Track for hikers and cycling tourism enthusiasts, which takes advantage of an old railway line that linked Manacor to Artà.
