Supported by artisanal fishermen, this reserve has several hotspots for the revival of endangered species
Home to the amberjack and teeming with posidonia meadows, it was created at the end of 2018 and covers 3756 hectares between Punta des Jonc, S'Argamassa and the inland waters surrounding the island of Tagomago.
The North-east Coast of Ibiza-Tagomago Marine Reserve was created at the end of 2018 and covers 3756 hectares between Punta des Jonc, S'Argamassa and the inland waters surrounding the island of Tagomago.
This little piece of Ibiza's coastline is of considerable ecological and fishing value. In fact, it was the artisanal fishermen of Ibiza who suggested protecting it. In addition to preserving and boosting biodiversity, the aim is to encourage the growth of commercial species.
It's common to find amberjack around the island of Tagomago, but species such as groupers, dentex or scorpion fish are rare. For this reason, a fully protected reserve of more than 200 hectares was created around Llosa des Figueral, where these less abundant species are usually found.
In the rest of the marine reserve, large expanses of posidonia meadow, various algae communities and underwater reefs can be found.
The protection of this natural space benefits not only traditional Ibizan fishing, but also recreational surface fishing and marine wildlife watching tourist activities.
