Every December Formentera organises a wide variety of activities for the whole family that bring the smallest island of the Balearic Islands to life for a month. They begin at the end of November with the Mercat de Nadal, a typical Christmas market set up in the Plaza de la Constitució in Sant Francesc.

Formentera is one of the quietest islands of the Balearic Islands and in winter there are many restaurants that close, so if you are looking to taste the most typical seasonal dishes, or traditional delicacies in a tourist environment, we recommend you eat at Migjorn Beach, where there are a variety of restaurants and beach bars.

This is one of the areas with the most restaurants on the island where you can try the bullit de nadal, a stew made with pork and poultry meat; or the sofrit pagés, a dish with meat, potatoes and sausages typical of the Balearic Islands. 

If you have more of a sweet tooth, you can't leave the island of Formentera without trying the Salsa de Nadal (or Christmas Sauce), made from peeled almonds, meat broth and sugar. It is eaten with a sponge cake and is usually made only at Christmas.
