Ferreries (Menorca)

The small village of Ferreries is located in the west of the island, near ravines of great natural beauty and the ruins of the Castell de Santa Àgueda, an ancient castle built during the Caliphate of Cordoba on the hill of the same name. It is also known for its famous shoe factories, which produce internationally renowned brands.

The church of Sant Bartomeu was the focal point for the narrow streets lined with the Mediterranean architecture that predominates in this simple Menorcan village. The meeting place is the Plaça Espanya, where there are several bars with pretty terraces on which you can relax, and even an ice-cream parlour where you can taste the famous xupín, a little handmade ice-cream made in Ferreries.

The surrounding natural environment is unique, spectacular and very special. The Barranc d'Algendar is an oasis within the oasis that is Menorca, with lush green vegetation and a stream, the Torrent d'Algendar, which flows by hikers along part of the route. Here there are several tracks to follow on foot or by bike, which link up with the famous Camí de Cavalls and lead to Cala Galdana.
