A stroll through the history of Ibiza through its ancient walls

The walled city of Dalt Vila is a historical treasure that was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1999. It is a fortified enclosure that preserves its imposing Renaissance walls, built to defend the island from foreign attacks in the 16th century.

The visit to Dalt Vila has two key parts. On the one hand, you can walk along its Renaissance walls to discover the defensive architecture of the 16th century. On the other, lose yourself in the charming narrow medieval alleys that are full history and wind through the heart of the walled city.

The tour begins in Plaça de Vila, connected to the famous Portal de ses Taules. In winter, this space offers tranquility, while in summer it is full of terraces and boutiques. Crossing the square, continue along Santa Creu and Sant Antoni streets until you reach Plaça del Sol. From here, a flight of steps leads down to Carrer des Portal Nou, where you can still see two ancient towers of the medieval wall.

The ascent continues through the church of l'Hospitalet, going up to Carrer de Joan Roman, with views of the church-convent of Sant Cristòfol. On this route you will discover the Puget Museum, the medieval gate of sa Portella and the Madina Yabisa Interpretation Center. The tour ends at the impressive Plaça de la Catedral, surrounded by historic buildings such as the Episcopal Palace and the old University.

On the descent, it passes Can Botino, the seat of the Town Hall, and the convent of the Dominicans, before reaching the Plaça de Vila once again, where our journey through the history of Ibiza comes to an end.
