In 1999, UNESCO declared the acropolis of Dalt Vila (the old quarter of Ibiza Town), the Posidonia oceanica meadows, the Phoenician site of Sa Caleta and the Punic necropolis of Puig des Molins a World Heritage Site. Since then the island has celebrated with a monumental medieval feast to which everyone is invited. Join the Ibizans as they celebrate their World Heritage!

During the second weekend in May, the historic centre of Dalt Vila is transported back to medieval times in one of the town's most important events. Over a four-day period, craft stalls, artists, minstrels and fakirs fill the impressive Ibizan fort with colour and fun, in a spectacle that is much more than just a festival: it is a celebration that pays homage to its rich history and culture, keeping the island's heritage alive and sharing it with the world.

The origins of Ibiza date back to ancient civilisations that left a deep imprint on its culture and architecture. Phoenicians, Romans and Arabs contributed to shaping the essence of Ibiza. It is precisely this cultural diversity that is celebrated during the Ibiza Medieval Fair, where the cobbled streets of Dalt Vila, the Vara del Rey promenade and the port are transformed into a stage bursting with colour, music and life.

Strolling through the narrow streets of Dalt Vila during the fair, visitors encounter a wide variety of characters, from street vendors to nobles, fakirs, snake charmers and minstrels. Visitors are transported to a bygone era as they explore the stalls offering a selection of handmade products from the cultures that have left their mark on the island, including traditional Ibicencan crafts.

But the Ibiza Medieval Fair is much more than just a market. The event is complemented by cultural and informative activities and shows that will leave you gobsmacked. Medieval theatre and falconry, archery and Arab dances are combined with choral music concerts in the churches of Dalt Vila and folklore exhibitions in the 16th century cloister of the town hall. There is something for all tastes and all ages!

The fair continues to grow year after year and currently has around 200 artisan stalls, including local vendors from Ibiza and Formentera. In addition, more artistic and cultural events are gradually being introduced, in an effort to deepen the history and identity of the city.

Thus, the Ibiza Medieval Fair is an event that goes beyond entertainment: it is a celebration of Ibiza's rich cultural heritage and an opportunity for visitors to immerse themselves in its rich history. With its medieval charm and festive atmosphere, this annual festival is an experience not to be missed for those wishing to explore the history and culture of the island of Ibiza in a colourful and fun-filled setting.
