The original Ibizan 'flower power'
The Punta Arabí market, held on Wednesdays, is a tourist attraction and almost a must for all island visitors. It is the largest and oldest hippie market on Ibiza, with more than 500 stalls, where craftsmen and sellers offer all sorts of temptations.
By setting up the market every Wednesday morning, the area of Club Punta Arabí turns into a throng of artisans and artists from all over the world, in a lively and multicultural atmosphere. Crafts, fashion, jewelry, handkerchiefs, natural cosmetics, antiques, musical instruments, gastronomy, original items from around the world, and other 100% 'made in Ibiza' ...
It is the largest hippie market on the island, with more than 500 stands in a pleasant environment surrounded by pine forests. The market is divided into different areas: an area with workshops for children, the so-called 'street of craftsmen' (where the audience can listen live music and watch how the products are made), a large tent for concerts, and an area for young designers with new craft products...
The market was launched in 1973 when the Hotel Club Punta Arabí gave the hippies on the island the opportunity to offer the hotel guests their products. At first, these young people spread their goods on a cloth, shaded by the pines... Over time, the market grew and became the largest of the island and made it possible for many artisan families to earn a living.
The hippie market of Punta Arabí is located in Es Canar (north-west of the island), between the beaches of Cala Martina and Es Canar. It can be visited on Wednesdays from April to October, between 10:00 and 18:00.
