A natural wonder containing unique landscapes with an extraordinary ecosystem
If you are a nature lover and like to hike, the Els Amunts nature reserve is your destination. It is located in the north-west of Ibiza and extends from Sant Antoni de Portmany to Sant Joan de Labritja and is the largest nature reserve on the island. With its breath-taking landscape, this rocky area offers Ibiza's best preserved customs and traditions. Exploring the nature reserve means the true enjoyment of wild nature. Here you can stroll between pine, juniper, olive and carob trees beside cultivated fields and discover some of the many bird species that have their nests high up in the rugged cliffs.
Do not forget the almost virgin coves you will find on almost every one of the beautiful walks, like the Cala d'Aubarca bay. Between the rocks, it hides a fresh water source and can only be reached on foot.
Ibiza's traditional architecture is also present in this area of the island. You can get to know them in such picturesque places as Santa Agnès, Sant Mateu, Buscastell, Sant Miquel, Sant Llorenç, Sant Joan and Sant Vicent, all small villages with whitewashed houses, defence towers and fortified churches.
Write down these essential places of cultural interest, such as Torre des Verger and es Molar, Balàfia, the cave drawings in ses Fontanellas cave and the Santa Agnès church.
