Hostels and shelters Tossals verds

Situated on the publicly owned Tossals Verds estate, these facilities are among the most emblematic of the Sierra de Tramuntana. The buildings, constructed in the 19th century, are close to a small market garden at an altitude of 525 metres, to one side of the old path from Alaró to Almallutx; the local scenery is dominated by the mountains of s'Alcadena and Puig de Tossals Verds. Outside, you can visit a small garden of autochthonous species and wonder at the stone pieces that used to be part of the olive press. Dry stone work is everywhere in the district. Terraces built in rocky areas where even spontaneous vegetation finds it hard to take a hold, threshing circles, walls, wells, snow houses, and, more than anything else, the great terraces of Sa Coma, built with huge stones that enable crops to be grown in the stream bed without being spoilt by heavy rains. The altitude and the variety of the slopes on the estate favour the presence of most of the species of the Sierra de Tramuntana's wild flora, with large holm oak woods, mountainsides covered in Mauritania vine reed, and an interesting flora of mountain tops and crags, where endemic species abound. This diversity of vegetation together with the rugged terrain and its isolation make the region a refuge for an interesting fauna too. The network of signposted paths enables one to choose between different routes. In a few hours one can get to the top of Puig de Tossals Verds, 1.115 metres, while those with strong legs can climb Puig d'en Galileu, following the Dry Stone Route. Accommodation and catering. Food & drinks service Barbecue, previous staff autorization Supplement on bed linen and towels
