Museum MACE Museu d'Art Contemporani d'Eivissa

One of the most important museums in Ibiza, it highlights the creative explosion of local and international authors since the 1960s.

Inaugurated in 1969, Ibiza's Museum of Contemporary Art is located in the old Hall of Arms of the Ibiza Royal Forces erected in 1727 in the bastion of Sant Joan.

It reopened in 2012 after being remodelled and enlarged with the construction of a new glass building occupying the old gardens nearby. During the remodelling, archaeological digs turned up a set of Carthaginian dwellings from the 4th century BCE that have been integrated in with the rest of the new building by means of a see-through floor.

The holdings feature visual creation on the island and related items from the 20th century, especially since the 1960s.  It houses works by renowned authors such as Will Faber, Eduard Micus, Erwin Broner, Erwin Bechtold, Gilbert Herreyns, Marcel Floris, Frank El Punto, Antoni Hormigo, Rafael Tur Costa, Tàpies, Equipo Crónica, Broto, Millares, etc.

Also included are the award-winning artworks from the Biennial International University Art Contest SEU (the "Biennal de Ibiza") and “Ibizagráfic”, and the collections of engravings donated by gallery-owner Carl van de Voort, and others.
