The Dalt Vila Museum offers a permanent display of pieces that cover more than three thousand years of history of the islands of Ibiza and Formentera.

Situated within the walled complex which encloses the most historical part of Ibiza Town, the museum is made up of the chapel of San Salvador, which forms the entrance, and the main section, a 12th century structure which was originally the main building of the old university and, following the arrival of the Spanish troops, became the Casa Consistorial (Town Hall) until 1838. Since 1907 it has housed the town’s Archaeological Museum, which in 1994 became known as the Archaeological Museum of Ibiza and Formentera.

The museum offers a journey, by way of valuable objects, through the history of both islands, from Prehistory until the Christian conquest. It has an interesting Mudejar coffered ceiling, as well as different gothic elements and the foundations of an ancient Arabic tower, discovered as a result of the recent restoration work carried out. The current permanent exhibition was restructured in 1995.

Access to the museum is via the chapel of San Salvador, the entrance of which is in the plaza de la Catedral. The museum has a total of 5 large themed spaces: Prehistory, Phoenician, Punic, Roman and Medieval, distributed over two floors. The visit also continues outside where you can enjoy the fabulous view of the bay of Ibiza from the Baluard platform.
