Two bastions in the Renaissance walls of Dalt Vila
Military architecture displayed and explained by means of two Renaissance bastions of Dalt Vila.
The bastions of Sant Pere and Sant Jaume form part of the 16th-century Renaissance city walls. The Sant Pere Bastion is located at the far northwest end of the area and is one of the most complex of the whole ensemble.
Visitors can see the casemates, small courtyards where artillery was kept, and now showing audiovisual explanations on the construction of the Renaissance wall and how such complex work could be done in those days.
The Sant Jaume Bastion faces west and the casemates on its flanks cover the sides of Sant Pere to the north and Sant Jordi to the south. On display there are cannons, a heavy-gauge mortar, muskets, swords, helms, etc. with a bit of fun for the visitors because they can try out various pieces. The display shows the value of military technology in the 16th and 17th centuries.
Dalt Vila is in the heart of town, housing the most representative buildings of political, religious and commercial power
