Churches, sanctuaries and hermitages
Feel the artistic and spiritual heritage
Since the Christian conquest, the islands have accumulated a valuable religious heritage, cathedrals, churches, sanctuaries, convents and ancient chapels that have been silent witnesses to the greatest chapters of local history.
Since the Christian conquest, the islands have accumulated a valuable religious heritage, cathedrals, churches, sanctuaries, convents and ancient chapels that have been silent witnesses to the greatest chapters of local history. This heritage can be visited year round, and will surprise you with its beauty. Wonderfully simple temples, like those in Ibiza, or ostentatious grandeur, like the Mallorca Cathedral.
Some of the religious sites have become unique backdrops to art and culture, and classical music or organ concerts can be enjoyed throughout the year, taking advantage of the magnificent acoustics.
The higher grounds hold sanctuaries such as de Lluc, surrounded by forests in the Serra de Tramuntana, or at El Toro, on Menorca's highest peak. Some have accommodation, where you will feel the peace and magnetism of the surroundings, and are a starting point for excursions and visits. There are also hermitages located on small elevations close to the towns, where you can enjoy spectacular views.
