Responsible tourism in the Balearic Islands
Enjoy your holidays responsibly
Become an active part of change so that the islands remain the paradise that everyone wants to enjoy.
The Balearic Islands are a Mediterranean paradise where tourists and residents coexist, and one of the pillars on which this paradise is based is the respectful behaviour of the people who live there amongst themselves and regarding the environment at all times.
Although leisure is an essential activity to ensure the enjoyment of a pleasant holiday, on occasions, certain behaviours, usually linked to excessive alcohol consumption, have been responsible for serious incidents which have caused suffering, especially among tourists and their closest circle (family and friends), tarnishing the image and reputation of the islands as a holiday destination.
Historically, this type of incident has occurred in very localised areas of certain tourist resorts in Majorca and Ibiza where the influx of tourists is very high and where nightlife activities tend to be concentrated: Platja de Palma, S'Arenal de Llucmajor, Magaluf and Sant Antoni de Portmany.
It is the responsibility of the Islands' government to provide safe and pleasant environments in which both tourists and residents enjoy the Islands at all times and where the right to have fun and the right to relax can coexist. For this reason, a new decree law (Responsible Tourism May 2024) has been published, consisting of a umber of measures in pursuit of these objectives.
