Explore the power of geometric shapes and kinetics in the works on display at this exhibition space on Calle Sant Jaume
The history of the Pep Llabrés Art Contemporani gallery is the story of someone who devoted himself to art, dedicated his whole life to it and eventually threw himself in at the deep end and decided to open his own art space, to make a contribution and share his vision with the Majorcan art world.
Thus, after 25 years working at the Joan Oliver 'Maneu' gallery (12 of them spent as director), Pep Llabrés opened his own gallery in the central Calle Sant Jaume in Palma in 2015. As well as exhibitions, the space was conceived of as a place to host a range of activities, always within the framework of contemporary art.
At the time, the gallery featured a joint exhibition with works by Joan Miró, Miquel Barceló, Antoni Tàpies, Donald Sultan, Eduardo Chillida, John Chamberlain and David Rodríguez Caballero, among other artists. However, one of Pep Llabrés' objectives is to support young talent, both from Majorca and from outside the island.
Viewers can get an idea of current and past exhibitions by taking a photographic tour around the museum's website. The gallery owner's particular interest in geometry and kinetics, his main contribution to Majorca's art scene, shines through these works.
