Garden Botànic de Sóller

The Botanical Garden offers a unique opportunity to discover the diversity and beauty of Mediterranean flora in one of the most charming villages within the Serra de Tramuntana mountain range. Inaugurated in 1992 as a centre for conserving, researching and teaching about Balearic plant life, the Sóller Botanic Garden has been a key institution for the conservation of Balearic Islands' the plant biodiversity.

The garden is laid out in stone terraces on both sides of a central pathway starting at the Museum, which is where the library is located and the natural science collections are kept. The first section houses the collection of wild flora: more than 1000 species, many of them endemic, form small gardens that recreate the disparity of the islands' habitats from the coastlines to the highest peaks of the Serra de Tramuntana mountains.

The route continues with the ethnobotanical collection, which consists of plants related to humans: ornamental, medicinal, fruit trees and vegetables. The citrus trees take centre stage here, as they have always done in the Sóller valley, appreciated by poets and painters for its similarity to the mythical Garden of the Hesperides.

The environment invites visitors to take a leisurely stroll to breathe in the scents and fragrances and admire the colours, shapes and textures of the plants that make a visit to the botanical gardens a well-rounded experience, combining culture, the broadening of knowledge and the enjoyment of the senses.
