The unmissable gardens in the monumental heart of the historic centre of Palma
Located at the foot of the Almudaina (the King's Garden) and created at the beginning of the 14th century by the Kings of Majorca, the most important garden of the Royal Castle could be found. Following radical changes, the space has been incorporated into the city to become an unmissable walkway to discover the beauty that Palma's historic centre has to offer.
Between the Parque del Mar and the beginning of the Paseo del Born, architect Gabriel Alomar (1910–1997) designed three adjoining gardens as an expression of the conciliation between Spanish-Muslim gardening, Italian Renaissance gardening and the island's gardening tradition. The central garden, inspired by the Acequia Garden of El Generalife Palace in Granada, is a tribute to the magnificent heritage of al-Andalus.
Terraces, fountains and springs water the abundant and varied vegetation. The most impressive trees include the hackberries, chinaberries and the extremely tall coris. Between the gardens and the greenery are some memorable sculptures, fully integrated into the surroundings. These include Jònica, by J. M. Subirachs, and Nancy, a mobile sculpture by A. Calder.
