Gastronomic market Santa Catalina

The Santa Catalina market, the oldest in Palma, has become a meeting point for gastronomic events in one of the most cosmopolitan and alternative neighborhoods of the city.

The fifty stands, gathered under one roof in the Santa Catalina neighborhood, present the freshest offer of fruits and vegetables, fish and seafood, olives, pickled cucumbers, sausages, typical island products, organic products ... There are also tapas bars, stalls with already prepared dishes, homemade food and bakeries, where you can buy a good ensaimada for breakfast.

But the Santa Catalina market is not just a place for daily shopping. It has also become a meeting place for gastronomic events where the Mallorquinos will extend the tapeo until Saturday after lunch. The market of Santa Catalina is the oldest market in Palma. The present building dates back to 1920. It is located in the district of the same name, on the corner of Anníbal and Pou streets, just 150 meters from the Parc de sa Feixina. It is a simple but elegant district, with some very interesting art nouveau facades and two to three-story buildings, which give the district the charm of a village.

In recent years, Santa Catalina has become one of the liveliest neighborhoods in the city. The reason? Some streets have been converted into pedestrian areas, and many new shops that attract young people are opened: retro-style barber shops, original clothes shops, bars, alternative bars and restaurants with a rich international offer. All say the neighborhood is trendy, but it has everything to delight its visitors for a long time.

From here you can walk down to the sea and stroll along the Paseo Marítimo, which has a lively nightlife. Or you can cross the Avenida Argentina; it forms the border with the old town. You can stroll between the manor houses and the beautiful churches. To enjoy a beautiful panoramic view, stroll down to the Es Baluard walls, from where you can see the Cathedral and Bellver Castle. The view is definitely worth a picture. It is also home to the Museum of Modern Art of the same name.
