Hotel Born
Before the 18th century, the manor was owned by the Gual-Moix family. Josep Ferrandell Gual-Moix came into ownership in 1790, the same year that he was named the Marquis of Cova. When he died in 1804, his niece Francesca de Villalonga i Ferrandell inherited the house. The year afterwards, she changed the name of the Marquis’ house to Casa Ferrandell. In 1788, she had married the soldier, Ramon Maroto González. Significant renovation work was undertaken in 1954 to turn it into a hotel.
Different kinds of windows have been combined on the façade. Next to a Renaissance-style window, we can observe three apertures that were built in the neo-gothic style. The main floor is structured around 4 balconies and a window, which are crowned with a circular pediment. Inside the patio, we can observe an interesting, spacious hallway with red Ionic-style marble columns, low arches and a groin vault ceiling. It leads onto several rooms, some of which have neo-gothic doors. The stairs to the main floor, to the right of the entrance, is unique in the sense that it is in the hallway rather than the patio, which is customary. The staircase is at the far end of the hallway. It has a square layout and features a shield with the Ferrandell family heraldry and the date 1723. We can see wall paintings by the baroque artist Guillem Mesquida in one of the rooms.
