Museum Museu Ciències Naturals de Costitx

The Museum is situated on the first floor of the Casa de Cultura (Cultural Centre) in Costitx village. Construction began in 1985 and it was opened in 1987.

The collection was created by Francisco Ruíz Bort, who born in Barcelona (1948). After creating the museum, the venue’s physical space meant that the collection could be expanded even more, incorporating new material and including the Geology and Palaeontology departments.

It has an exhibition space of 500m2, which permanently displays one of the Balearic Islands’ most significant collections in the area of Natural Sciences. The visit follows a route through passageways where the different preserved species are displayed in cabinets, along with reconstructions of their habitat or Setting as you might encounter them in the wild. Although the vast majority of species belong to Iberian-Balearic fauna, exotic species are also displayed, especially in the reptile, amphibian and invertebrate departments.
