Life and works of Ramón Llull
The Sanctuary of the Mare de Déu de Cura (Mother of God of Cura), situated at the summit of Mount Randa (543m), in Algaida, was restored in the early 20th century. Cura’s historical importance harks back to the 13th century, after King James I’s conquest. The Franciscan regular tertiaries took charge and installed there the novitiate of the Mallorcan province. In 1955 the image of the Mother of God was pontifically crowned.
Grammar classroom conserves religious books and objects related to the worship of the Sanctuary. There are also printed books and manuscripts on the subject of Llull. There are also books on other subjects, relatively old. In the classroom you can also see a collection of paintings on religious themes. There are engravings representing Ramón Llull and a small collection of earthenware pots. From the classroom you can pass through to a smaller room containing architectural plans and projects. There is a further room with different objects. You will see a collection of liquor (juice) bottles from Randa, manufactured for many years at La Porciúncula and the Sanctuary. In this room is a valuable copy of an old map of Mallorca, by Cardenal Despuig.
