Nature reserve Albufereta

A natural area of high ecological value. Many migrating birds choose this area for a rest during their journey. It is Mallorca's third largest wetland area.

The s'Albufereta Reserva Natural is located in the Bay of Pollença, on the north coast of Mallorca and is supplied with water from four water courses: Can Xanet, del Rec, de la Font del Mal Any and de Can Roig. It became a protected area in 2001 and is one of the sights of the Bay of Pollença due to its incredible landscape and the high ecological ornithological and botanical value.

S'Albufereta is an extremely important refuge for the migratory birds on their annual journeys. The wet areas are also a true oasis for the birds during the dry season in the summer months.

Due to the interaction between man and nature, there are a number of natural and near-natural habitats: lakes, flooded meadows, streams, canals, cultivated fields, dunes and beaches. The water that passes through the two ponds and the various canals of the park flows into the sea under the bridge that links Alcúdia with the Port de Pollença.

You can reach the park by public transport from Pollença or Alcúdia, with your private car, or, if you wish, by bike. A round trip of the s'Albufereta by bike is one of the recommended routes. This pretty itinerary encircles the nature reserve and crosses areas dedicated to agriculture and cattle-raising.
