Tennis tournaments in the Balearic Islands
As an ideal place for sports, especially in the winter months, the Balearic Islands have hosted several national and international tennis championships. These include the Mallorca Championships, an ATP 250 men's tennis tournament held on grass courts at the Santa Ponça Country Club. This championship takes place at the end of June and is the prelude to the third Grand Slam competition and Wimbledon.
Another international tournament to have been held in the Balearic Islands is the Mallorca Open (also known as the Mallorca WTA). This was a women's tennis competition, also on grass courts, which was held in Majorca between 2016 and 2019.
The islands have also hosted state competitions on several occasions. In 2016, Manacor hosted the Spanish Championship, which was the second time this tournament was held in the Balearic Islands after being held in Ciutadella de Menorca in 2001.
These sporting events attract hundreds of people to the Islands, who take the opportunity to enjoy the wide range of leisure and dining options and the beautiful surroundings after each match or training session.
