Public estate Son Real

This estate is located in terrain in use since pre-talayotic times. It includes archaeological elements, a medieval ‘possessió’ and areas with enormous natural, landscape and ethnological value.

This estate includes a vast terrain and some houses of several ‘possessió’. The area has been continuously inhabited since prehistoric times. Pre-talayotic, talayotic, Roman, Arab and medieval remains have been found in this terrain. The most important ones are the burials in the Punta dels Fenicis and the town of Es Figueral. It was purchased by the government of the Balearic Islands in 2004.

Construction of the ‘possessió’ was initiated in the Middle Ages and it has been modified over time. It includes the typical spaces of this type of structure: the manor, the courtyard, the chapel, warehouses, etc. The area known as Ses Cases Noves was extended during the 20th century. Since its refurbishment it has been used as the interpretation centre, where aspects related to history and agriculture are explained.

Apart from the visit to the houses, there are several marked routes that show the different landscapes (beaches, dunes, streams) and relevant elements of the ensemble.
