Discover the secrets of the Majorcan tongue-fabrics
Handicraftsmen have been producing on Mallorca for centuries the colorful llengos (tongue) fabrics, with which curtains, pillows and furniture covers are elaborated. To discover how these fabrics are produced, you can join a guided tour. The visit takes place in Pollença in one of Europe´s last family-owned workshops that still uses the Ikat technique to produce textiles: Teixits Vicens in Pollença.
The technique comes from the ancient Orient, and arrived in the 16th century on the Silk Road in Mallorca. The Majorcan Ikat is a versatile, durable fabric that has the same pattern on both sides.
During the visit, you will be able to admire the secrets of dyeing, the elaboration of natural fibers and looms, and to buy beautiful pieces. Take advantage of your visit to stroll through the streets of the urban centre of Pollença. You will discover many old palaces, artisan workshops and art galleries.
