What to see and do in Palma de Mallorca

The Cathedral of Santa Maria, known as the Cathedral of Mallorca, is the main religious emblem of the island of Mallorca. Built in front of the sea between the 14th and 16th centuries, it is the jewel of the island's Gothic architecture, and its interior houses 59 windows and 5 rosettes that come together to create a unique visual experience. If you are in Mallorca on 2 February or 11 November, you can't miss the light show put on using the rosettes in the Cathedral.

From April to October, the Cathedral opens the bell tower and its terraces to the public offering a 360 degree tour of its terraces.

THE PALMA BEACH

The Palma beach is one of the most recognized and visited by tourists, making it one of the most complete beaches of Mallorca. In addition to ideal conditions for swimming (shallow, lifeguards, toilets and rental of deckchairs and sunshades), this beach is an ideal space for walking amid nature. Also, you will find in its surroundings all kinds of attractions, tourist establishments and restaurants with an extensive gastronomic offer.

PALMA DE MALLORCA PROMENADE

If you're visiting Palma de Mallorca, you can’t miss walking or cycling along the Palma de Mallorca Promenade. A 5.5-kilometre promenade where you can enjoy the incredible views of the bay. This promenade is the main point of leisure and restaurants in Palma, home to numerous restaurants, terraces, clubs, local shops, monuments and sights of Mallorca. Don't miss it. 

BELLVER CASTLE

Bellver Castle, built in the 14th century as a fortress, is the oldest circular castle in Europe and a masterpiece of Gothic-Catalan architecture. Located on the top of a hill west of Palma de Mallorca, its upper floor offers a 360-degree panoramic view of the Bay of Palma and the Serra de Tramuntana.

Bellver Castle also houses the City History Museum, where visitors can take a tour of the history of Palma from Prehistory to the 20th century through the preserved remains, models of buildings and explanatory panels.

ALMUDAINA ROYAL PALACE

The Almudaina Royal Palace, located opposite the Cathedral of Mallorca, is one of the residences of the Spanish Royal Family and a National Heritage site. Within its walls you will have the opportunity to discover some works of art, tapestries, statues and rooms, which stand out for their architecture. From the outdoor terrace you can enjoy views of Palma's promenade, Parc de la Mar and Bellver Castle.   

PALMA DE MALLORCA OLD TOWN

A stroll through Palma's historic centre is an essential plan for any traveller visiting the island. This is one of the island's main tourist areas, as most of the city's tourist emblems can be found there: the Episcopal Palace and the Can Solleric Palace, the Church of Santa Eulalia, the famous Majorcan courtyards and the Plaza Mayor, one of the core areas of Palma de Mallorca.

 You can't leave Palma without walking through these streets. 

THE LONJA DE PALMA DE MALLORCA

The Lonja de Palma is another of the city's emblems of Gothic architecture. 

One of the building's original constructions is the unloading of the crosses (or ribs) of the vaults, which merge with the columns at different heights and on the sides. 

This space usually hosts various exhibitions throughout the year and admission is free of charge.

OTHER PLACES TO SEE AND VISIT IN PALMA DE MALLORCA

Palma, the capital of Mallorca, is one of the most popular cities on the island and is full of tourist attractions, in addition to those mentioned above, which are worth visiting.  

We recommend you lose yourself in its streets, which abound with Gothic churches, squares and various sites and monuments of interest, such as museums, the old city walls, Arab baths or the Town Hall, among others.  

Let's not forget shopping, Palma offers a wide range of shopping, from the traditional shops in the area of Calatrava to the luxurious boutiques of the Paseo del Born. In addition, the main shopping areas are open every Sunday and on public holidays.
