Feel the fresh and bohemian lifestyle of Ibiza through its garments and designs that combine tradition and freedom

Adlib fashion is much more than a way of dressing: it is the expression of the bohemian and multicultural nature of Ibiza, an island that has managed to keep its roots by fusing tradition and modernity. Inspired by traditional Ibizan clothing and adapted to modern times, Adlib fashion has gone around the world and continues to conquer hearts with its fresh, white designs that are full of light. Like its island.

Ibiza has always been a meeting point for diverse cultures, which is clearly reflected in its rich craftsmanship. Adlib fashion, one of its best known exponents, is a clear example of how the island combines tradition and modernity.

The word Adlib comes from the Latin ‘Ad Libitum’, which means ‘to your liking’. And this is how this fashion invites you to dress: freely, comfortably, but always in good taste. Although it is mainly linked to white cotton garments, lace and lace trimmings, Adlib fashion has evolved over time.

Its roots go back to traditional Ibizan clothing, particularly the typical garments of the peasants. Elements such as straw hats, esparteñas and shawls served as inspiration for this style. With the advent of the hippie movement in the 1960s and 1970s, designs evolved into cooler, lighter and more bohemian fashion. This crossover between cultures and lifestyles gave rise to a unique trend, which soon gained popularity outside the island.

One of the key figures in the expansion of Adlib fashion was Smilja Mihailovitch, a Yugoslavian aristocrat who fell in love with the island and its lifestyle, becoming its international ambassador. Today, Adlib fashion has established itself as a globally recognised style of dressing.

One of the key events in the consolidation of Adlib fashion was Ibiza Fashion Week. The first one was held in 1971. The catwalks were not in elegant locations or emblematic buildings, but open air, on beaches, in squares or parks. The models wore light and comfortable garments, but also showed more elaborate pieces.

Today, Adlib fashion continues to be the expression of a lifestyle that combines tradition and freedom. Although it has adapted to modern times, it has kept its artisan spirit intact. Thanks to this, local designers continue to create fresh and original garments under the Adlib Ibiza brand.

Thus, Adlib fashion is much more than a passing trend. It is the reflection of a lifestyle and a tradition that has managed to keep its character and uniqueness over time.
