The only church on the island with a sundial
18th-century religious architecture resembling a fortress, with great decorative simplicity, common features in many churches on Ibiza.
Construction of the Church of Sant Josep was finished in 1731. The church features the standard characteristics of churches on the island: it resembles a fortress and has great simplicity in its decoration, most notably, its broad, whitewashed stone walls. The main façade, the only one on the island with a sundial, opens onto a porch, a feature often found on many churches on Ibiza, with three arches and the stations of the cross inside.
The church itself has a single nave covered in a barrel-vaulted ceiling and with chapels along the sides. The items conserved include the wooden pulpit decorated in 1763 by José Sánchez Ocaña with lovely depictions of the Mysteries, the wooden sculpture of St. Joseph from the old altarpiece, a statue of St. Ann and an Ecce Homo, also by Sánchez Ocaña.
