The centuries-old tradition of glass blowing - a true show that is worth seeing it!
This tradition, which came to the island in the time of the Romans, still lives in the family-run workshops. The cups, glasses, oil containers, plates, chandeliers or large colored lamps from their furnaces are true works of art.
Glass blowing is a tradition that still lives in Mallorca. Three factories in Algaida, Campanet and Valldemosa: Can Gordiola, Menestralia and Lafiore, still produce glass in this way.
The art of glass blowing is influenced by Moorish, Italian, Catalan and Andalusian influences. It is said that many similarities exist with Murano glass. This work of art goes back to the 1st century a. C. and has almost not changed since those days. The sand is melted in a tool called canya at 1,600° C. The red-hot mass is blown with the same canya into a large balloon and shaped with the help of further tools to the desired object. This process is a true show and is worth a visit to one of the workshops.
Capdepera and Artà are the cradle of typical Mallorcan baskets and hats
These fabrics of the island keep the tradition alive and transform them into a new trend
