The path of the salt wagons that leads to the best beaches in Formentera
Although the paths that are mentioned in the name are long gone, this path that leads from La Savina to les Illetes was the route used by the salt wagons.
The old Camí de sa Guia, where the salt train sputtered along, is a pleasant cycling or walking trip from the dock to the beach. Mechanisation reached the salt industry of the Pityusic Islands in the late 19th century. Among its breakthroughs was the installation of very narrow-gauge railway lines to transfer the salt from the ponds to the cargo holders: steam engines were used initially (one can be seen in the Ethnography Museum), followed by diesel engines and, finally, tractors and trailers. The railway line from the salt train was installed from the point of procurement, processing and loading of the salt in La Savina to the ponds known as Salines d'en Marroig. These are located in the area of Les Illetes, where the best beaches in Formentera, and even in the world, can be found.
