Located in the south of Formentera, this reserve is highly biodiverse and a transitory area for dolphins and turtles
Punta de Sa Creu Marine Reserve in southern Formentera protects the environment between Punta de la Fernanda and Punta des Far. It has been a protected area since 2018 due to its posidonia meadows and wide variety of fish and molluscs.
This beautiful area, which includes part of the La Mola Site of Community Interest (SCI), is frequented by bottlenose dolphins and loggerhead turtles. It is also considered a hotspot for marine biodiversity, and is therefore extremely important.
Professional small-scale fishing boats from Ibiza and Formentera make their catches here. However, it is also subject to intense sport fishing and diving activities, and is thus now under protection, with the aim of recovering fish stocks and maintaining its biological richness. Its naming as a marine reserve was even supported by the Formentera Fishermen's Association.
As a result, visitors who want to go scuba diving or fishing here have to apply for a special permit. Snorkelling is permitted throughout the reserve.
