What is a gourmet market? It is the perfect symbiosis between a traditional market, a place to buy the freshest and richest products of the islands, and a gastronomic experience. They are the perfect place to succumb to the temptation and enjoy the best dishes of both the Balearic and the international cuisine as a main dish, portions or tasty tapas.

They live at the heart of the city and have succeeded in integrating the playful and experimental side with the traditional approach without losing the authenticity they have always characterized them. The oysters offering vegetables, meat, fruit, sausage and fish in the past now also offer oysters, sushi, portions, tapas and gourmet products. Here is a list of main markets to help you plan your visit:

Mallorca

Mercado del Olivar
: In the heart of the city. It was built in 1951 and is one of the most popular on the island.

Mercado de Santa Catalina: In Santa Catalina's fishermen’s´ district we find this lovely market, one of the most authentic and lively of the island. The market has reinvented itself and joined this offer.

Mercado gastronómico de San Juan: Founded only a few years ago,

the Mercado de San Juan is the youngest of all. It is located in an Art Nouveau building in the S'Escorxador Cultural and Shopping Center. Today it is one of the most visited markets, with delicious and innovative proposals for the most demanding palates.

Menorca

Mercado de Ciutadella: Known as 'Mercat des Peix' (Fish Market) because of its history and its offer, it has become one of the city´s most striking places, and is an obligatory stop for all those who love good food. It is famous for the breakfast dishes, which are offered under the beautiful U-shape arcades.

Mercado del Pescado de Mahón:  'El Mercat des Peix' (Fish Market) with its gastronomic and cultural offer leaves no one indifferent. Apart from fresh local fish, you can also taste tapas, wines and typical Menorca cuisine and international specialties. Cultural activities and concerts liven up this symbolic market.

Ibiza

El Mercat Vell (Old Market): Located in the La Marina district, in a unique building in the form of a Greek temple built in 1872. Surrounded by small stands and terraces where you can taste such delicacies as tuna and olives sandwiches; they are offered at a small kiosk near the Portal de Ses Taules Gate.

Formentera, Always true to its character, the island offers you a wide variety of traditional open air markets. You can discover them on each of your steps.
