Bel Bonnín is the woman who runs her own particular chiringuito or shack on the road out from Petra to Santa Margalida. The first thing you’ll notice are the crates of melons and watermelons, her star products.

If you’re on the Ma-3340 road, near Petra, your attention is bound to be caught by a simple fruit and vegetable stall with large crates of melons and watermelons, and strings of tomatoes on the wall. This is Es Xiringuito de na Bel, which has been run by Bel Bonnín for more than 25 years.

Right from the start, the goal for Bel and her family was clear: to champion the farming and consumption of local produce. That’s why everything on sale at Es Xiringuito de na Bel is seasonal, fresh and home-grown. From potatoes, squash or aubergines to beans, peppers and garlic, you’ll find it all here. However, there are three standout products: the bunches of tomatoes, the melons and the watermelons. “They’re our star products,” Bel explains.

Bel and her family, who have always been farmers, take care of the entire process, from production to sale. To guarantee the quality of their produce, all items are chosen one by one, at just the right time to be picked or harvested. And none of their produce spends any time in cold storage units – it all comes straight from the fields.

Anyone shopping for produce at Es Xiringuito de na Bel would agree that it’s a place with its own particular charm and picturesque personality. Built from a former stone house, it features no modern construction elements at all. This family business has built a loyal base of devoted customers, residents and tourists alike, who come from all over the island.

As all the produce is seasonal and highly specific, Es Xiringuito de na Bel is only open during times of harvest to ensure absolute freshness, which generally means from July to November.
