Route between Caimari and Lluc

The route runs along the old pilgrimage route to Lluc monastery that crosses the Tramuntana mountains. It takes approximately two hours (one way) and is of medium difficulty. The return to the starting point can be done by bus between the Lluc sanctuary and Caimari.

Signposted route of medium difficulty with a duration of two hours (one way). The route starts of Nostra Senyora de Lluc street in Caimari. It is then necessary to take road Ma2130 between Inca and Lluc until the first right curve, where the first section of the old Lluc road is. This is the road that will be followed all along the tour.

It is a road that still has all of its paving, except in some sections which have been absorbed by the road. The excursion ends in the Lluc monastery. The landscape is full of pine trees and holm oaks, among other types of trees, and ‘pedra en sec’ (dry-mounted stone) walls. The clear points reveal impressive views of different points of the island.

Travellers will be astonished to discover that the olive is the tree that links the plain and mountain and is so abundant in both the fertile land on the slopes and on the rugged mountain rocks. For centuries, agricultural activities were the backbone of the local economy. Crops like olive trees and vegetables, which proliferated thanks to the watering systems built by the Arabs, combined with lumbering and charcoal production.

In order to return, there is the option of walking back along the same route or taking a bus that stops at Lluc. It is also possible to stay overnight at the monastery. The excursion is best enjoyed in spring or autumn.
