In museums, art galleries, gardens, as sculptures on the open road ... in every corner of the Balearic Islands there is contemporary art. Works of local, Spanish and international artists who will enchant you and which are attracting more and more interest from the international art scene to our islands.

For centuries, art has gone hand in hand with the Balearic Islands. Art completes these islands, which possess everything. The Balearics were the cradle of artists such as Miquel Barceló and Toni Catany, and saw Joan Miró grow artistically, and today, together with Natxa Pomar and María Carbonero, are celebrating their climax.

Numerous painters such as Santiago Russiñol, Bruno Zupam, Coll Bardolet, Nils Durwitx and Ricardo Anckermann have chosen corners of the Balearics as a motif to capture them on their screens.

There was something that attracted them in our archipelago, something beyond the landscapes, the mild climate, or the friendliness of the inhabitants. It was the light! Light was the indispensable ingredient for her works. A light that today falls through the glass of countless places of exhibition on these and many other works which the islands hold as their treasure.

The most important museums are the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo Es Baluard, in the historical center of Palma, and the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Ibiza, inside the Sant Joan fortress, a building from the 18th century. Es Baluard is one of the most important contemporary museums in the country. It houses 600 works and a first-class team that tries to awaken the enthusiasm of the entire island population. Every season it has programmed numerous events that make the talent accessible to all.

Apart from these museums, the islands also include many specialized art galleries such as Addaya, Altair, Pelaires, Aba Art, L21 or CCA Andratx in Mallorca, Encant or VidrArt in Menorca, Marta Torres or P/Art in Ibiza or Black Sun in Formentera. In them you will find works by both local and international artists, such as Gauguin Cezanne, Dalí or Picasso.

The love story between art and the island is so intimate that a whole series of events are celebrated throughout the year, which focus on art.

The most famous event is the Nit de l'Art (Art Night), an initiative by the gallery owners to make the works on the streets accessible to all. The night of art is celebrated in September, and is a distinguished spectacle that attracts many friends year after year by offering music, performances, theater.... Do not miss this Art Night if you visit Mallorca these days.

Another recommended event is the Art Palma Brunch in spring; it combines art with the enjoyment of gastronomy. It is the opposite pole to the Art Night, because it is celebrated during the day.

Many visitors are surprisingly seen from the large number of artworks in the Balearic Islands that read urban furniture or heritage in the exhibition venues. Dedicate part of your stay to the art!
