Day 1: Anti-stress therapy in the Mediterranean

Ajuntament de CortCatedral

Palma is a city with a rich leisure and business offer all year round. But it is in the spring, when Mallorca reawakens with renewed vigor to welcome the most important congresses, conferences, trade fairs and business meetings of all industries. If you are a participant in one of these events, prepare yourself for the exploration of a city that surprises even many travelers. A city to forget the stress and pamper yourself.

The city wakes up early, with the mild sun of the first spring days and the Mediterranean in peace. If you have some time, visit Portitxol, a place that has preserved its seaman's character. El Portitxol is located next to the main beach in the urban area of Palma, and has become a unique meeting point to enjoy the mornings in peace.

On the beach promenade you can enjoy your favorite sport in the open air (running, walking, yoga, cycling ...); after the sport, you can stop on one of the terraces. If you want to enjoy the typical breakfast, order a coffee, a fruit juice and a llonguet de sobrasada (bread roll with sausage) or the Mahón cheese. This breakfast gives you strength enough to approach the challenges of the day with a smile.

From Portitxol it is only a few steps to the Congress Center of Palma, where congresses, trade fairs and business meetings are held in Palma's capital. The completely new facilities take on all types of private and public events, and enjoy exceptionally good connections both to the rest of the island as well as to the airport, in just 10 minutes' drive on the highway.

After having devoted yourselves to the main reason of your trip to Mallorca, return to your hotel. If the afternoon sun still shines, take a course on the beach and enjoy the first bath of the year. In the spring, towards May and June, the water temperatures begin to rise, and the beaches near the city are almost empty. This is the ideal atmosphere to relax and rest.

In the area of Illetes, in the west of Palma, beyond Porto Pi and Marivent Shopping Center, you will find the typical Mallorcan bays surrounded by small cliffs, clean sand and crystal clear, deep turquoise water.

On the other side of the bay, beyond the beaches of Platja de Palma and El Arenal - already in the local area of Llucmajor -, a handful of hidden bays await you. They are very popular among the inhabitants of the city: Son Verí, Cala Blava and Bellavista. There are small bathing beaches that look out onto the open sea and whose almost entire ground is rocky. Their great advantage is that even in August the sea is wonderfully quiet and hardly people's rule prevails.

After the bath, back in the hotel, it is necessary to prepare for what the island is providing for us beyond its capital. The selected wine routes await you in the area of Binissalem, Mallorcan wine par excellence. Here you will find some of the island's most famous wine cellars, and you can see how the vineyards are cultivated on this Mediterranean island.

Most of the wine cellars in Mallorca offer the public open areas, in which wine tasting with tapas (small snacks) and sometimes even live music is offered to visitors. Others organize guided tours through the vineyards and the production facilities. On the island the world of wine is strongly connected with art and patronage; so it is likely that the works of contemporary art will surprise you on the walls of wine cellars, barrels and visitors' rooms.

Before returning to the city center, you can have dinner in one of the traditional restaurants, with a classic dish accompanied by local wine. On this first day it is advisable not to overstate and not to celebrate the night too long. Tomorrow is packed and there are still a thousand offers ready to make the most out of your visit to the island.

Day 2: Museums, shopping, gastronomy and endless nights

ShoppingPortitxol

Palma will surprise you from the early morning hours with the hustle and bustle of the streets, especially during the week or on Saturdays. This is the most interesting day to get to know the habits of this Mediterranean capital. You can start the day with a breakfast near the Sant Miquel Street, the Plaça Major (Main Square) of the Ayuntamiento (Cort) or the Born District. Here is one of the oldest cafeterias in Palma, always full: Bar Bosch, on Joan Carles I Square (the place of the Turtles or Tortugas). The place is famous for its small warm bread rolls (mini llonguets calientes) and for its terrace, which is practically open all year round. It is the ideal place to drink a coffee and watch the passing passers-by.

Close by are two of the most interesting art galleries in Palma. Just opposite is the Casal Solleric, which is the responsibility of the public administration; behind it, in Unió Street, the spectacular Weyler Palace, which accommodates all kinds of art exhibitions and a well-stocked shop with designer items, which you can buy as a souvenir. If you decide to take a longer walk, stroll down the Passeig del Born, cross Plaça de la Llotja Square and get up to the city wall; Here is the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Es Baluard. In addition to exhibitions of all styles and workshops, you will also find a cafeteria with incredible views of the Real Club Náutico de Palma.

From one exhibition to another, you can look around in one of the many shops. In this neighborhood, as on the Jaume III Street, the most exclusive boutiques of the city's international fashion models are concentrated. From the Passeig del Born to Jaume II and Sant Miquel streets, you will find many narrow streets and traditional shops and shops that specialize in traditional handicraft products from Mallorca, from shoes and ceramics to T-shirts.

And once you are on Sant Miquel Street, you will come across a short visit to the Mercat de L'Olivar. It is Palma's most exclusive market, and here you can buy fresh products from the land, the sea and the Mallorcan farms. And you can share vermouth or a beer with the locals at noon. In the market, at its corners, there are two taverns with the typical tapas of Mallorca, such as the Pica Pica, the potatoes with alioli (a sauce of olive oil and garlic), the fried squid (calamares romana), the Olivier salad (ensaladilla rusa) and the olives.

If you are a friend of the gastronomic markets and are looking for more variety, you will find it in the S'Escorxador district. From the center, take Blanquerna Street up to Cine Ciutat (former Cines Renoir). The Sant Joan Market is located in the former slaughterhouse of Palma. It houses stands of all kinds and from all continents. On all evenings during the week the market is well visited, and the guests stand shoulder to shoulder or sit on the terraces. On Saturday, the Aperó is celebrated with vermouth up into the afternoon hours.

But if you want to explore the historic center for a tourist visit and enjoy fun during the Majorcan night, take a course on Santa Catalina. The neighborhood is beyond the Es Baluard Museum, on the other side of the Sa Faxina Park, and is the fashion district to enjoy a drink in the evening, or to have an evening meal with your friends or your partner and dance until the early morning hours. Modern designer cafes, bars for evening drinks, a dedicated market with gastronomic stalls, restaurants from all over the world, discos with live music and DJs ... Santa Catalina is pure fun, and also the gateway to the Marítimo district, another trendy neighborhood where you will enjoy long nights.
