Don't miss this opportunity to enjoy chamber music in some of the islands’ most iconic places
Mid-October marks the beginning of the Balearic Islands Symphony Orchestra’s chamber music season, as always reflecting its commitment to reaching all audiences, organising concerts throughout the islands.
The Balearic Islands Symphony Orchestra is one of Spain’s most important symphony orchestras. Founded in 1988, its main concert hall is the Palma Auditorium, but you can enjoy its performances in many places throughout the Balearic Islands, as well as in Spain’s major cities and international venues such as Perpignan, Cannes, Marseille and Vienna. It is also firmly committed to premiering works by composers from the Balearic Islands.
The Chamber Music series Solistas de Sa Simfònica can be enjoyed at the Museum of Mallorca, Casal Solleric, the Museum of the Castle of San Carlos, the Church of San Felipe Neri, the impressive Bellver Castle and during the Contemporary Music Series at Es Baluard and the Fundació Pilar i Joan Miró. Alongside all this, there are also concerts for schoolchildren and families.
In addition to its main season in Palma, the orchestra is involved in the opera seasons of the Fundació Teatre Principal de Palma - an organisation under the umbrella of Mallorca Island Council - and Friends of the Opera of Maó on the island of Menorca, the Bellver Castle Music Festival and the Pollença International Music Festival.
Chamber music, in contrast to orchestral music, is composed for a small group of instruments. Its name comes from the places where these small groups used to play during the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. At that time consigned to the salons of the aristocracy, little by little, chamber music spread to small concert halls and private homes. So today we can enjoy the Balearic Islands Symphony Orchestra and their chamber music in venues as lovely as traditional Majorcan patios or in other beautiful locations scattered around the island such as Alcúdia, Artà, Inca, Algaida, Campos, Santanyí, Montuïri, Llucmajor and Vilafranca. A special event for lovers of this genre.
