Local producer ES CONVENT

Es Convent is one of the Balearic Islands’ Direct Sales producers, selling organic eggs and olive oil, but Es Convent is above all a social initiative, as its different lines of business form part of the Mater Misericordiae organisation’s initiatives to help people with intellectual disabilities into work, improving both their own quality of life and that of their families. It’s about creating jobs while caring for the environment at the same time.

There’s nothing quite like frying an egg from an Es Convent hen in extra virgin olive oil from the same brand. The epicentre of this gastronomic delight is the Ses Oliveres d’Es Convent estate, in Llubí (Mallorca), home to more than 1,500 olive trees, creating a beautiful landscape. Arbequina and Picual are the varieties grown to produce the organic extra virgin olive oil. The estate has its own olive press, to which visits can be arranged. There are also more than 600 hens, which are free to roam and fed with 100% natural products.

The ’organic deli‘ products of Es Convent (eggs and oil) therefore combine a triple benefit: they’re local, organic and socially committed. Users of the Mater Misericordiae occupational centre form part of the maintenance and gardening teams and help with the various farming tasks, such as harvesting the olives, collecting eggs or helping with the packaging. In fact, you’ll find that the product labels aren’t always perfectly lined up, because they are attached individually by hand – at Es Convent they try to use as little machinery as possible.

Among other points of sale, which you can view on their website, Es Convent eggs and oil are available for sale at the Ses Oliveres estate (on the Inca-Llubí) road, at the Mater Misericordiae centre in Sineu, and at the occupational centre in Palma. Bear in mind that production is limited.
