Local producer TREBALLS AGRÍCOLES I RAMADERS

Gabriel Morell is the man behind Treballs Agrícoles i Ramaders. With more than 30 years of experience working in the world of agriculture and livestock farming, he runs Son Garau estate, in Campanet (Mallorca), where they grow vegetables and rear animals, as well as other local products.

Gabriel Morell and his family have worked the land and raised livestock “since forever”. When we ask him about which products he has available, he replies with “everything”. That means everything that can be grown or produced in the Mallorca countryside when done so with care and respect: seasonal vegetables, eggs from completely free-range hens, honey produced on the island, oil, olives, sobrasada, hazelnuts, porcelles pork, lamb and even firewood. In a word: “everything”.

At Treballs Agrícoles i Ramaders, they sell directly to consumers. Their produce is completely organic and certified by the Balearic Council of Organic Agricultural Products. Even the methods use to care for the animals is organic, overseeing what they eat and tending to their wellbeing. They have more than 250 sheep, certified by the “Mè ecològic de Mallorca” brand.

People like Gabriel Morell help to keep the agricultural landscape of the islands alive. His farm, measuring around 60 hectares, is located a kilometre from the outskirts of Campanet, on a small hill, with views towards Alcudia bay. “It’s very pretty,” he remarks.

If you pay Son Garau a visit, Gabriel will show you round, though only a hundred metres away his son has a shop, where you can buy the full range of the farm’s produce. By buying from farmers such as Gabriel and his family, we help to keep the landscape alive and to preserve a heritage that is far too important to be allowed to disappear. That’s the essence of local, zero-kilometre produce, and of direct selling.
