A walk through one of the most charming towns in Minorca.
Route through the town of Alaior to enjoy the most emblematic streets and buildings of the town.
The cultural route starts at Ramal square and climbs towards Constitución square. It then turns towards the carrer del Forn and reaches the ‘Pati de sa Lluna’, an ancient cloister from a Franciscan convent that was completed in the late 17th century. In 1853, after a 9-year occupation by a military detachment, the indoor spaces of the convent were converted into dwellings.
Back in Constitución square, the carrer Major has several municipal buildings and the emblematic Can Salort farm house from the late 18th century. This building was refurbished and converted into the headquarters of the Universitat de les Illes Balears in Minorca.
At the end of the street is the Santa Eulàlia church, built in the 14th century over a Muslim mosque. It underwent extensive modifications in a Baroque style during the 17th century and its outside has an air of a military fortress.
The route continues until Porrassar Vell street and the Plaça Nova, then turns right and reaches the Sant Pere patio, with spectacular views of the surrounding area. Beside this is the Sant Pere chapel that was built during the 18th century.
