Sant Lluís (Menorca)

Sant Lluís is a small white village on the east coast of Menorca built during the French domination of the island in the 18th century. It is named in honour of King Louis IX, to whom the church of Sant Lluís, in the centre of the village opposite the town hall, was dedicated.

The tiny village of Sant Lluís has an eminently Mediterranean character that can be seen right at the entrance to the village, where a white and blue mill welcomes visitors. The bright white of the whitewashed houses contrasts with the blue of the sky and the green of the typical Menorcan shutters. However, one curious fact about Sant Lluís is that many of the street are named after French personalities, recalling its origins.

One of the attractions of Sant Lluís is its rural setting. The surrounding area is a tangle of narrow paths, lined with dry stone walls that reveal the agricultural past and present of this part of the island. In fact, one of the main attractions is the existence of vineyards and wineries where you can taste the local wine, which has the geographical indication of Vi de la Terra Illa de Menorca.
