A journey through the essential flavours of the island
They say that the best perfumes come in small bottles, and this saying is perfectly applicable to the island of Formentera. The island treasures a valuable gastronomic and cultural tradition and, best of all, visitors have been able to get to discover it for several years at the Mercat Pagès. This space invites you to immerse yourself in the flavours of the island and offers you local products that, like a good perfume, preserve the traditional essence of the island.
The Antoni Tur "Gabrielet" centre, in the heart of Sant Francesc Xavier, is home to the Mercat Pagès, a tiny and less known market that, throughout the year, becomes a showcase for the island's best produce and seafood. This space, that is just 76 m², is a meeting point for Formentera residents and visitors who are looking for the authenticity and quality of products made on the island.
Support for local production
Until 2012, Formentera did not have a market to sell the island's produce. The Mercat Pagès is a reflection of Formentera's commitment to its agricultural and fishing identity. As well as tasting the fruits of a carefully cultivated land, visitors have the opportunity to talk to the producers and find out about local produce and life in the island's countryside. Traditional production methods are kept alive and offer visitors unique, authentic and organic products.
"Product Made in Formentera" brand
One of the major initiatives is the regulation of the brand "Product made in Formentera". This label guarantees that the products available on the market have been harvested and processed following traditional methods. Honey, wine and olive oil are just some of the products that bear this seal of authenticity.
